Bean Funnel and Sensory Box

How cool is this bean funnel made out of recycled containers and large thumbtacks!? I read about this on Little Hands, Big Work. My husband and B put this together and there were HOURS of fun to be had!

Kids of all ages have walked into the playroom to see this and let out ooohs and aaahs. The top container might be a bit too high because B would hold onto it when he poured beans in and therefore we had a hard time keeping the thumbtacks in the wall for that piece. Want to make one? Here are the Bean Funnel Directions.

So after a few weeks of the bean funnel, B started throwing beans "to Grandma's house" (aka across the room). I decided it was time to turn the beans into a sensory tub. I hid letters in the beans and B hunted for them.  Last night I got out the beans again while I was making dinner and B practiced shoveling and pouring.

  1. I hid letters in beans for my daughter last week and she loved it! She was just asking for it again today.

  2. That is really cool! Reminds me of those neat marble runs. When I was a little girl I used to daydream about making some intricate and complex set of pipes and tubes that I could drop a ball into to turn of a light or something of that sort. LOL, this probably would have satisfied my desire a little.
