Straw painting is a nice change of pace from traditional painting techniques. Put paint on the paper and have your child blow through the straw to spread the paint. I used the Crayola washable paint but it really needed to be thinner so next time I will mix it with a little water first.
Here's a list of other painting techniques to try.
This is an excellent way to promote some mouth exercises, but for a child who has issues, it's best to water down the paint.
ReplyDeleteThanks for reminding me that we need to try this painting technique!
ReplyDeleteI forgot all about straw painting! I learned that in school ages ago, I have to teach it to the kids!
ReplyDeleteI did this with my cherub, but we used food dye. The splatters were gorgeous, so much so that I've actually framed one!
ReplyDeleteWhenever I see this on blogs, I think it looks so fun, but I'd be afraid my son would accidentally suck instead of blow. I wonder if I am underestimating him. He does blow bubbles with a wand. But I think I'll wait another year or two just in case. :)
ReplyDeleteHey, we used food coloring and water. Also, to the previous poster, if you are worried about them sucking, poke a few small holes in the straw, then they can blow but they can't suck.
