Facts about the Heart

Use Valentine's Day to sneak in a little science about the heart!

Facts about the Heart
*A child's heart is approximately the size of his fist.
*The heart circulates the blood supply about 1,000 times each day.
*The heart pumps the equivalent of 5,000 to 6,000 quarts of blood per day.
*If the blood vessels in the body were joined end to end, they would circle the Earth two and a half times.
*Most women's hearts beat faster than men's.
*Scientists have found that laughing is good for your heart.
*Blood is almost 80% water.
*You could drive a truck 20 miles using the energy created by the heart in one day.

These facts are ideal for 1st and 2nd grade students, but can be talked about with your preschoolers too!
Show your child how to find their pulse and count it. Try it again after jumping around the room. Who's is faster?

  2. Love this post! My sister had open heart surgery as a child. So, I have always been fascinated with facts and the inner workings of the heart. Kerri
