Heart Counting Game

Tons of Fun featured this heart counting game that I think is awesome!

How to Play:
Stand above the heart and drop 3 pom poms or cotton balls.
Count how many landed on the heart and how many landed off of the heart.

Other Variations and Ideas:
*Use 5 or 10 pom poms to practice combinations of 5 or 10
*Even or Odd - Did an even or odd number land on the heart?
*Use different colored pom poms and identify the colors that landed on/off the heart.
*Make a chart and use tally marks to keep track of how many landed on the heart.
*Don't forget to use this chance to talk about more and less!  Are there more on the heart or off of the heart?

Thank you to Tons of Fun for sharing this (and so many other) great ideas!

  3. My daughter's preschool class just did something similar today. Two kids each had 5 pom poms. The first dropped 1-5 of hers and the second had to decide how many to drop to have 5 total. Then they drew a picture of how many inside vs how many outside. . . They learned that 1 outside plus 4 inside was 5, or 3 outside plus 2 inside was also 5, or 5 inside and 0 outside was also 5, etc. They made their drawings into a little math facts book for sums of 5.
