Baby Activity - For the Love of Cords

Courtney from Praying for a Little One shared this idea with me. Her son loves cords and wires. Instead of constantly redirecting him from those dangerous areas, she made a cord box for him. She used different textured ribbons and cords and put them through the hole in the bottom of a diaper box and taped them inside. Problem solved and he loves it.
I couldn't wait to share this with you. This is such a creative and doable activity. I think all kids would love something like this whether they have a passion for cords or not.

  1. That is a great idea... I know my infants when they start crawling are fascinated with all things "wired"

  2. We are constantly redirecting, so I may have to try this! Thanks for the post.

  3. This seems a little contrary. Because what's to teach them that this cord is ok and this one Is Not?? Maybe make similar things but not real cords?

Now I only have to find something that will keep him away from my plants! He loves to pull on their leaves.:-( Any suggestions?

  6. So glad everyone liked it! To answer the annonymous commenter...it seems to me that he is able to distinguish the difference between cords connected to the wall and cords/strings in my play box (diaper box has a baby on it and lots of colorful ribbons to make it an obvious difference). If you aren't comforable using cords, I would just use lots of different texture ribbons and shoelaces. I do have one area that he is still really tempted to mess with (lamps plugged in both outlets) that I put a storage cube ottoman (target) full of his toys in front of so he was safe.
