Even before toddlers and preschoolers can write letters or spell words, they still enjoy writing notes to family members, drawing pictures, making lists, folding paper, using the paper for pretend play, etc.
I made this special writing box for B. In it I put scraps of paper, mini notebooks, envelopes from junk mail, a few stickers (to pretend that they are stamps), and colored pencils.
The good news is he loves it and spends so much time writing and drawing! The bad news is the paper has ended up all over the house and he likes to keep each and every piece so my advice is set up some rules or guidelines before you start.
What a great idea to encourage writing.
ReplyDeleteLove this idea! Simple, yet so inspiring!
ReplyDeleteoo very great idea!! We will have to make one of these soon!
ReplyDeleteI've done a writing center for my son, and several for gifts for friends. I still can't believe how it fostered an intense love of writing in my son! http://givinguponacleanhouse.blogspot.com/2010/05/making-writing-meaningful.html
ReplyDeleteHis favorite activity is putting sticky notes on everything!
I wrote an article a few weeks ago about a writing center I made for my three year old. She loves it!
ReplyDeleteIn my article I have some links to character themed writing paper and pretend checks you can print - these are a big hit with my daughter.

This is so cute. I love the idea of writing everywhere.
ReplyDeleteI love this idea! It would also be a fairly inexpensive and fun birthday gift. You could customize it to go with a particular theme, like mermaids, trucks, etc. I am going to start a series on literacy themed gift ideas, and I'll be sure to link to this post.
