Have you heard of The Reading Lesson?
It is a phonics based, step by step reading program for parents and teachers to use to teach basic reading skills such as how to decode words.
I've just started Lesson 1 with N. It focuses on letters and letter sounds. You can download and try lesson 1 and lesson 2 too. (Just scroll down on their site a bit to find the download link).
What I love about The Reading Lesson:
*It is easy for parents to understand and implement.
*The step by step program makes it predictable for young readers or struggling readers which helps them to feel successful.
*There are no rules about how fast to go or how many pages to cover. You move ahead when your child is ready (all of those guidelines are included in the book).
*The lessons are short and direct.
You can see a sample of The Reading Lesson in action here.

They also have a book called The Verbal Math Lesson Level 1. I've never seen anything like this that targets such a young age (ages 4-7). There is no pencil and paper allowed which makes it more like a game. B loved it! He has a love for numbers and math anyway, but he is having so much fun with it. This book is very simple and easy to follow for parents. You can read more about the theories behind this book and download a lesson to try at The Verbal Math Lesson.

ReplyDeleteMy 3 year old is a numbers boy and his 1 year old brother follows closely behind. Thanks for posting this we are/will be homeschooling our youngest. I am always on the look out for FUN learning.
ReplyDeleteI will be using it with My grandsons, ages 4,6 and 9.As spanish speakers it represents a valuable tool for them to learn english as their second language.
DeleteMy 3 year old daughter was saying 'fffff...ed, fed' in the car the other day. It took me a second to connect it with the FedEx tuck we were sitting behind at a stoplight. I think she's ready to read and I would use this with her.

ReplyDeleteI shared this, but not really sure where to leave the link comment :(
ReplyDeleteI would LOVE to win this. My husband is a teacher and I am a former teacher. We value education a great deal. My 31 month old loves to learn and is working on his letters. Reading is in his near future. Thanks!
ReplyDeleteWe would do this with our daughter who is almost four, and then later with our son. Our daughter keeps begging us to "say the words" every time she picks up a book and would love to learn to read!
ReplyDeleteI would use this with our preschooler who will be starting Kindergarten in the fall. She LOVES electronics and this would make learning fun for her (and mom and dad so we don't have to "fight" with her to learn).
ReplyDeleteI also shared this on my FB page, but not sure how to post the link to it.

ReplyDeleteI have a 3-year-old boy who is working on learning his letters (and hopefully letter sounds). His sister started reading well at 4 - I am curious to see if he does too. Thanks for the chance to win.
ReplyDeleteMy 4 year old is ready for this!
ReplyDeleteWould love to have this book! My adopted three-year-old son had an unhappy beginning in life on many levels, medical and otherwise, largely through the actions of people around him, but he is now a darling, cheerful, affectionate little guy who loves letters, especially the letter M, which he came to love through a Sesame Street skit about the missing letter M. He loves M to the point that his daddy went out to the woodshop and made one for him. Now our little guy carries his capital letter M with him like a teddy bear and even sleeps with it, and he points out big M's and little m's everywhere he sees them. I can hardly wait to teach him to read!
