Pictured above:
Very Top: Construction paper (left), "What we are working on now" basket (right)
Top Shelf: Playdoh (left), Activity Containers (right) Read this post about how I set up the Activity Containers.
Middle Shelf: Games and Pattern Blocks (left), Lite Brite, Puzzles, magnetic cookie sheet, File Folder Games (right)
Bottom Shelf: Games and Puzzles
To the right of the shelves is a 3 drawer rolling cart where I keep manipulatives of all kinds from Clothes Pins, Magic Rocks, Lima Bean Letters, and magnets to PVC Phones for reading, or Counting Mats and Erasers. Right now it isn't very full, but once it fills up I'll need to find a way to organize the drawers better (reading on top, math in middle, other on bottom etc.)
On top of the drawer organizer is just a tote with activity books, coloring books, etc.
Next to the hanging shoe organizer (that holds random things) is my favorite organizational tool! It is one of those plastic clip strips you'd see in the aisle at the grocery store that holds packages of candy or small toys that entice your child as you walk down the aisle. Most of my activities end up in plastic bags so I punch a hole in the top and slide it on. Each clip strip holds about 15 bags and I can see where each activity is without taking up much space in the closet.
Although I save most of the activities to use later with baby N, I also throw things away that I can quickly make again later for her (such as Quick Letter Puzzles or ABC & 123 Sticker Puzzles) to avoid clutter.

Good Morning, Activity Mom! Looks great- very organized. It only took you 10 minutes to straighten? It took me a whole day to straighten my girl's craft area- ugg. They take after there parents in the organization area unfortunately. We are a house of creative spirits, I guess! Working on it though.

ps. Hope your baby is doing well! My sweetie is such a joy! :)
Seriously, is it that clean? Mine's a mess, and I SOOOOOOOOOOOO need to clean it. Notice I didn't say I was cleaning it.
ReplyDeleteThe clip strip idea is great! Where did you get it? Did you just ask a store if you could have it? Organizing an activity area and an art area is really on my mind right now but I'm not sure how I want to go about it. This post was great, I'm going back to study your pictures a little closer :).
ReplyDeleteI love organizing and even more I love seeing other people's organized spaces! Great job - it looks wonderful!
ReplyDeleteI loved this post this morning when I read it (in a reader) but just had to laugh at your comment over adventures in mommydom...that noone ever asks you about how you do it. You put so much effort into teaching your kids...you make it look easy...and make it easy for the rest of us by providing great ideas. Anyway....love it all, including your organizing!
ReplyDeleteGreat job! I love organizing, I wish I had more time to do i!
