How to Spell Your Name - A Song

I made up this song to help B learn to spell his name and baby N's name. It's also helping him at a time when he is confusing "him, her, he, and she" (ex: Look at that boy, she's eating a sucker.). It works no matter how long or short the name is, you just have to sing the letters faster or slower.

To the tune of B-I-N-G-O

There is a girl,
She is the best!
And Nicole is her name.
N-I-C-O-L-E
N-I-C-O-L-E
N-I-C-O-L-E
And Nicole is her name.

Activity Extension:
Once your child knows the song, print the song on a piece of paper and have your child point to each word as they sing it. It helps with exposure to their name and also a few beginning sight words.

  4. I've done this with my 5yo and 3 yo to the tune of The Farmer in the Dell:

    S-A-R-A-H,
    S-A-R-A-H,
That is how I spell my name, it's
    S-A-R-A-H

  5. We do this with our sons (Jonah and Micah) because their names have the perfect number of letters to make it easy! Jonah loves it and asks us to sing it all the time with him!

  8. I love making up songs to go with my daughter's name! I also used BINGO but I had to squeeze to fit her name in it because her name has 6 letters.

  9. Music is one of the best ways to teach things! Love it! My daughter learned how to spell her name this way, too.
I know how to spell my name,
Do you want to hear me,
    K Y L I E, K Y L I E, K Y L I E,
and that's how you spell Kylie. :)

  10. Cute! I taught my girls our address with the birthday song. Example:

    504 Love Avenue
    Creative, PA
    15206
    This is our address!

The name idea is cute. My daughters learned how to spell colors with songs, too.

  11. I have used this trick with both of my kids. My five year olds name was sung to "Twinkle Twinkle" and my 19 month old's to Bingo. I think it works with many familiar childrens' songs and boy, does it ever help them learn their names fast!!! It also helps when learning how to print their names.
