Make Ice Cream in a Bag

I've heard of making homemade ice cream in a bag and I've seen recipes for it all over the internet, but for some reason I have never tried it. Part of me didn't believe that it really worked. It DOES work!

Here's how to make your own homemade ice cream in a bag:

In a quart ziplock bag add:
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1 Tablespoon of sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon of vanilla

Try to get as much air out of the bag as you can when you seal it up. Put your bag of ingredients into a gallon ziplock.

To the gallon ziplock add:
  • 4 cups of ice
  • 6 Tablespoons of salt (any kind)
Close the gallon ziplock.

SHAKE!
Shake for about 5 minutes. We actually set the timer and took turns shaking it.
You will be able to see and feel the texture of the ice cream.

It tastes really good!
This recipe made enough for both kids to have a small bowl.

Why does this work?
The salt lowers the temperature of the ice and the temperature in the bag causing the ice cream ingredients to freeze.
